Live theatre, in English, in Strasbourg

At 18:00 on Monday 9 November, in the Tagora rehearsal room, we will be holding auditions for next year’s spring production, The Secret Rapture by David Hare.

The play will be staged at the Cube noir from 22 to 25 April 2027. There are six characters, four women and two men, between their late 20s and late 40s. The writing and the dialogue is truly brilliant – something to really get your teeth into as an actor.

If you would like to come along, please contact the director, Andrew Wright, by e-mail. If you are interested but can’t make it on the 9th, please reach out to us anyway and we can make some other arrangement.

To give you some idea of what the play is all about, here is the summary which appears in the Cube noir programme:

When their father dies quietly in his sleep at his home in rural England, Isobel and Marion are faced with a problem. Apart from dealing, in their different ways, with their grief, they must decide what to do with their turbulent, alcoholic stepmother, Katherine. Isobel runs a small business with her lover Irwin. Marion, a junior cabinet minister in Margaret Thatcher’s government, suggests that Isobel should expand the business and take on Katherine as a partner. Isobel always strives to do the right thing, but her seemingly innocent choices trigger a spiral of increasingly traumatic events.

In this landmark play from 1988, David Hare, one of the finest contemporary British dramatists, takes us deep into the lives and psyches of these fascinating, often conflicted characters and examines profound questions such as the injustice of love, the pull of darkness and madness, and what it means to do good.
