Live theatre, in English, in Strasbourg

Tagora is sorry to bring you news of the passing of Maria Oreshkina, an enthusiastic participant in a number of our productions in years gone by.

Quiet, modest and unassuming, Maria appeared in Tagora’s shows La Belle Époque, Tagora’s Christmas Cracker and thEspionage and also in the short plays The 15-Minute Hamlet and Bond Does It Again. She was a great team-player, always willing and reliable – in short, a pleasure to work with.

David Crowe writes: I had the pleasure of directing Maria in Bond Does It Again. At one point her role required her to insult, in Russian, a high-ranking (but incompetent) British civil servant, played by Martin Weston. The script gave her free reign and, knowing no Russian, I encouraged her to improvise, but clarified that she didn’t need to use bad language. “For example,” I said, “how would you tell him in Russian, ‘Go and boil your head’?”

“Oh,” she replied, very seriously. “I don’t think I could ever tell him to do that.”

Rest in peace, Maria.
