Reading: The Real Inspector Hound11:00 - 13:00Comedy by Tom Stoppard. Two theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot, attend an absurd country house murder mystery reminiscent of a classic whodunit. Unexpectedly, they become entangled in the play’s events, and their actions begin to mirror the drama unfolding on stage. Written between 1961 and 1962, the play draws inspiration from Stoppard’s experiences as a theatre critic in Bristol. Like his earlier work, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, The Real Inspector Hound explores fate, free will, and the notion of a “play within a play”. The piece is notable for its blend of absurdism, farce, parody, and satire.
